Pastor Byron Anthony Jackson is a native of Anniston, Alabama, and a lifelong member of the Greater Thankful Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Saks High School and continued his education at Jacksonville State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. While a college freshman, Byron answered God’s call, preaching his initial sermon in March 2011. Byron grew in ministry under the teachings and leadership of his Pastor and Spiritual Father, Reverend Dr. P.Q. English.
In November of 2013, Reverend Jackson was ordained as a Preacher of the Gospel at the Greater Thankful Baptist Church. Byron has served as the Youth Minister, Interim Pastor, and Pastor of Greater Thankful Baptist Church of Anniston, Alabama. Pastor Jackson earned a Master of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University. He is currently continuing his educational advancement at Abilene Christian University working toward a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy. He aims to pair the expertise of licensed counseling with his personal ministry emphasis of pastoral care to shepherd the flock of God effectively.
Byron married the love of his life in 2017. Bria is an educator who has a love for children. They have the joy of sharing their beautiful daughters, Mila Elise and Mali Faith.
In addition to being a husband, father, and pastor, Rev. Jackson is committed to the work of the local church, Baptist convention, and community. He has also served on various committees, boards, and assisted various organizations that have impacted the communities in which he served. He was named among the inaugural class of Central Alabama’s Top 40 Under 40.
During his matriculation at Beeson Divinity School, Rev. Jackson completed a Cross-Cultural Ministry Practicum throughout areas of Brooklyn, New York, where he received outreach and evangelism training for carrying out relevant ministry in impoverished and gentrifying communities. He is a consultant with the Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention (a certified prevention agency) for their Faith-Based Support Specialist Program, an initiative that equips pastors to join the fight against substance misuse. This program seeks to eradicate the stigma of mental health and addiction in the faith-based community.
Rev. Jackson was called as the seventh Senior Pastor of the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in July of 2023. Pastor Byron Jackson has a passion for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, working to build bridges and aid those who are wrestling with life as it comes. As a pastor, he has learned that most people need someone to care enough to walk with them toward where God is leading them.
